Raul Escalante from Venezuela has been living in Barcelona four-and-a-half years and, with many competitions under his belt, is at the door of becoming one of the new great local revelations of skateboarding.
“I CAME TO FIND A NEW PERSPECTIVE IN LIFE; it’s much calmer here than in my country, in everything; work, quality of life, security; Venezuela is very violent and has a lot of insecurity. I came for the peace… I like peace…The current scene here in Bcn is pretty wide; a lot of people from around the world come here just to skate; there are a lot of good places, of all kinds of dimensions, all kinds of surface… what I wanted; it’s here in Barna!
It would be good if the Council set up a good skatepark, a large one, near the centre of the city, because in reality, due to the law, there is nowhere to skate here. The streets are good but the police I dedicate myself to skateboarding a lot every week because I really like it. I’ve taken part in a lot of competitions this year, in Vigo and other parts of Galicia, Bilbao, Irun, Madrid; I’ve also taken part in in the top three. Also I’m currently recording a part for a video ‘FTS A Place to Everybody’ by my Brazilian friend Marcos Rasta, which will come towards the end of the year.My message to everyone would be to live life calmly, without complications and with a lot of peace! Peace is what the world needs… for me, this, health and my family are what are most Relevant.”
